Material selection
The selection of the steel as well as its working hardness depend on the sheet thickness and strength of the material to be machined.
The greater these two, the higher the loads on the die.
Materials for die making
1.2363 Steel for through hardening
- Very good dimensional stability, toughness and through hardenability
1.2379 Steel for through hardening
- Secondary hardening – base material for nitriding or coating
- High-alloy steel for through hardening with moderate machinability
1.3343 High-speed steel (HSS)
- Very good through hardenability
- High-speed steel with very high adhesive and abrasive wear resistance
1.3344 PM Powder metallurgical steel
- Maximum adhesive and abrasive wear resistance
- Powder metallurgical high-speed steel with good machinability
M V10 PM Powder metallurgical steel
- High vanadium content – optimum edge stability
- Powder metallurgical high-speed steel with optimal dimensional accuracy after the heat treatment
M W10 PM Powder metallurgical steel
- High cobalt content – very high hot hardness
- High adhesive wear resistance
- Powder metallurgical high-speed steel with maximum compressive strength
M CR8 PM Powder metallurgical steel
- Combines wear resistance and toughness at the highest level
- Moreover, added tungsten improves adhesive wear resistance
CF-H40S+ Carbide
- Excellent corrosion resistance
- The universal carbide grade – the ideal compromise between hardness and fracture toughness with high edge stability
CF-H25S+ Carbide
- Alternative to CF‑H40S+ for abrasive wear
- Very fine / fine grain grade with good edge stability despite high hardness

Blocks for eroding with starting hole
Our digital catalogues offer the possibility to introduce starting holes in your blocks for eroding. The freely configurable starting holes with ø 1 mm enable maximum flexibility when defining the EDM contours. Except for the material grades CF-H25S+ and CF-H40S+ (carbide) we offer all blocks for eroding, whether heat-treated for stress relief or hardened, with customisable starting hole. This spares you the often expensive introduction of the starting holes for wire EDM.

Blocks for eroding available with optional thread
To make screwing-in the contour punches even more efficient, in addition to starting holes, we can also make threads according to your specifications in the hardened blocks for eroding.
