During this time, he accompanied Meusburger all the way from the first catalogue creation to the introduction of the first ERP system and finally to today’s portal. The aim has always been to optimise the ordering process for customers. We ask the product expert 6 questions to find out more.
You have been with Meusburger since 1989. What challenges were waiting to be overcome in those days?
At that time, we published the first catalogue in book form. Meusburger was even then very future-orientated, and we were one of the first companies in the region to work with Adobe Illustrator 1.0. Meanwhile, our unmistakable turquoise colour was also created.
Why turquoise?
We wanted to have a friendly colour shade for our customers and employees since they always see this colour when working with and at Meusburger. That’s why we added some green to the typical blue that was often used for metalworking companies at the time. This laid the foundation for today’s Meusburger turquoise.
We have heard that you were also involved in the creation of the web shop. How did this come about?
We always created vector graphics for all products by default. At one point, we had the idea to use them online and set up a web shop. Once we had found the right partner for the implementation, we were able to save our customers a lot of time by shortening the ordering time from around 30 to 7 minutes, revolutionising the market at the same time.
And the ERP system was the immediate next step?
Not quite. The web shop was being permanently optimised to support our customers in their daily work and to offer the best possible service and very easy handling. We soon thought it would be beneficial to have our own ERP system that is customised to our needs and thus optimally covers all necessary areas for our customers.
Now, at the end of your career, you are a product expert for the plate segment. What prompted this change of job within Meusburger?
I’ve always had a lot to do with the products and also the plates, just in a different way: I provided support for our customers via the web shop. Due to Meusburger’s huge growth, I had to decide at some point whether to stay in IT or devote myself entirely to plates. As I always enjoy taking on new challenges and had already been able to gather a lot of knowledge on this subject at Meusburger, I finally chose the plates.
After 35 years at Meusburger, you are retiring this year. In your opinion, what are the distinguishing characteristics of Meusburger?
For me, it’s all about stability, security, willingness to invest, and the trust placed in me. I have always had the opportunity to try out new things, overcome interesting challenges, and grow with my tasks.
