There will most likely be a regulated Brexit with a transitional phase at the end of January. As a result, there will probably be no changes in business activities with the UK until the end of 2020. Deliveries will continue to be possible within the framework of the free movement of goods.
After the transitional period with the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU, the fundamental freedom of the movement of goods will cease to exist and the country will be regarded as a third country. We recommend that our customers familiarise themselves with the necessary customs formalities in good time.
As a precaution, apply now for your EORI number
- The EORI number is used for the registration and identification of economic operators and is a prerequisite for the declaration of imports and exports at customs.
- An application is free and non-binding.
- Given the probability of an initial high demand for EORI numbers, bottlenecks in the application procedure are likely to occur.

We continue to supply you with DAP – What does this mean for our customers after Brexit?
- Meusburger continues to supply its customers with DAP (Delivered At Place) after Brexit. i.e. we continue to bear the transport costs.
- Customs clearance is carried out through forwarding agents directly with the customer.
- Customs costs and import turnover tax are borne by the customer, the invoice is issued by the forwarding agent directly to the customer.
Create your own tax account
- The customs clearance can be carried out by our logistics partners or by partners of forwarding agents on site.
- If no tax account is available, the partners on site require prepayment of the taxes.
- The goods cannot be delivered until the taxes have been paid.

We are prepared for Brexit at Meusburger
- Meusburger is able to carry out the customs clearance for Brexit according to the requirements. However, as with any third country transaction, there may be delays caused by customs.
- Delivery time changes: in order to keep lead times as short as possible even after Brexit has come into force, we are in close contact with our forwarding agents. In addition to this, however, the lead times also depend on factors that cannot be influenced by us. This concerns, for example, the Dover/Kent infrastructure, the Channel Tunnel or the capacities of the customs agencies.
Nonetheless, the final course of action can only be communicated after the negotiations have ended.
Best regards,
Your Meusburger team
